Rock Paper Water - Carn Leith, The Orkney Islands, The Outer Hebrides, Kilmartin, Ireland.
Early September - Mid October 2008 Walter and I toured the outer Islands of Scotland, a little of Ireland and Wales.
In this series of installations I am investigating sites where Druidic peoples first impacted upon the land. These people, travellers from scandanavian lands settled in remote islands then travelled throughout the Northern areas of the British Isles creating villages, fortresses, spritiual constructions, cairns and tombs.
As I travelled throughout these areas my ephemeral paper bowls, cast from river rocks and marked with the essence of time, were placed to interact with historic, time wearing ruins. The sites, ephemeral in a slightly longer term than fine paper bowls, remind us of life ever evolving, the ebb and flow of time and reclamation by nature of all that humans endeavour to impose on the earth.
The installations continue my research into history, memory, celebration and ritual created by humans in search of their own beliefs.
