The Artists 2000 Foundation Inc. is proud to introduce the touring exhibitions of Chinese artistSUN BAIJUN Floating and Mobile & Life and Nothingness. During 2008Two series of work by Associate Professor Sun Bai Jun toured four centres in Melbourne.Sun Bai Jun a contemporary Chinese Artist working between Zibo in Shandong province and his studio in Beijing produced these works using traditional Chinese Ink Wash methods and Anhui paper."I first saw the artwork of Sun Bai Jun in 2003 at an impressive exhibition in Beijing titled "Experimental Ink Wash". The works shimmered with a sessation of movement across the paper's surface. I was intrigued and upon close investigation discovered intricate layers of tone upon tone interspersed with solid white paint. Shapes of almost microscopic forms, one would expect to view under highly magnified conditions wove and interwove with tone. In his artwork he conveys a sense of mystique that reflects his deep concern with the mystery of life." He speaks of a "vital force" in art creation and "life spirit illusions". The artworks are large and engulf the viewer. 'floating and Mobile' consists of six individual pieces 1250mm x 2500mm.In his series 'Life and Nothingness' there is purity in the works for he uses his skill with the brush and deep understanding of the ink's capabilities to create flowing marks, dry brush and the illusion of solid form in a delicate lightness. The paintings seem almost transparent with a weightlessness that is intriguing and encourages close investigation of subtleties hidden in the strokes.
